Nothing makes our heart more warm and fuzzy than hearing what dancing at Studio Z means to our members.
We truly love every single one of our Sassy Family.
I remember scrolling through Facebook and this suggestion kept popping up for something called Studio Z. I’d never heard of it. I clicked on it to find out more. It looked interesting. Dance sessions for ladies. I remember thinking I bet it’s miles away. As it turns out, it was 5 minutes up the road. I scrolled through the various classes.....PoZe, FuZion, RodeoZ, BopZ and came across something called RevealZ. Discover your inner burlesque star....
First thought was that I’m too old (past the big 50!). Secondly, the last time I did any choreographed dancing was in high school wearing a very clingy, blue all in one Lycra outfit. Thirdly, I’d be clumsy and show myself up.
I came back to look at the site a couple more times then decided to take the plunge. I booked on using the very easy link and committed myself to try one session.
I arrived early and was met by the very welcoming Harry. He went through the forms relating to any physical issues I had (of course there were some at my age!). I was then shown into the lovely studio with floor to ceiling mirrors where I took up position on my chair. An hour later and I had completed my first session. I’m not going to lie, I felt unco-ordinated and a bit unsteady in places! However, I must have caught the bug because I agreed to come back for the next session.
What has followed has been an amazing journey of self-discovery and an amazing welcome into the dance family. I thought it was just about dancing but there is so much more.
I have had problem with joints and previously had severe pains in my feet. I used to step out of bed very carefully and have to coax my body into life. I have had knee issues for several years and have been reluctant to do any activity that may cause pain. The fact that I am now using all areas of my body and not tip-toeing around has made a dramatic difference to my physical wellbeing. I have also noticed that my posture has significantly improved.
I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and told that I was borderline diabetic. The GP wanted me to start on a course of tablets, but I declined stating that I wanted to make lifestyle changes and monitor the effects. My blood pressure is now classed as normal and my blood sugars are within a good range. I am convinced that the dancing has been a major factor in making this happen.
The dance family are incredibly supportive and the compliments flow freely. Imagine the boost you get as an older lady to be told that “you’ve got a nice arse” on your first ever session. Just being told that you look fabulous gives you a massive boost, especially when you don’t feel all that good about yourself sometimes.
At the end of each session, a video is recorded and is sent to anyone who wants to practice in-between classes. (This is purely for the dancers benefit and not for public circulation.) I personally love having the ability to practice at home. It beats doing the housework!
The level of enthusiasm shown by Harry and Nate is infectious. They make you want to be there every week. They encourage you to try different classes. They organise group get-togethers and days out. They have created a safe, funny, care-free space where ladies can be their gorgeous selves.
My advice would be to ditch the gym membership and try one of the amazing classes. Become part of the Studio Z family. You won’t regret it!
Can't wait to get back into that dance studio, danced and acted since I was about 5/6, we wasn't lucky in those days and didn't have performing arts at school ... nagged and nagged my mum and dad to send me to privte dance school but I went and loved every moment. Even landed a part in a film in America. Studio Z has brought it all back to me, think the neighbours are sick of seeing me dance in my kitchen
